So if Kevin Mitchell is right and rare variants are important for IQ then a good place to look is retards (i.e., Intellectually Disabled). From a review paper by Kaufman (2010) on the causes of non-syndromic intellectually disabled (NS-ID):

heh. (^_^) i actually don't have a problem with cousin bangers (i should maybe spell out my position on the matter somewhere on my blog.)
i'm really mostly interested in how inbreeding or outbreeding affects our social behaviors ('cause of inclusive fitness stuff).
then, i'm quite interested in explaining how the best of western civilization came to be. i actually think (or, rather, am guessing) that some amount of cousin banging was important in producing western society -- maybe the magical 3rd-4th cousin matings? i'm not sure.
in any event, bang away at your cousin! or your niece, for that matter. it' ok by me! (^_^)
(if you're planning to have kids, tho, a little genetic screening might be a good idea.)

Regardless of their importance in explaining the distribution of IQ, I think research on rare variants of large effect is more important. It has to a better mechanistic understanding of intelligence. That is what will validate IQ.
